kenneth hemmerick - bio

Kenneth Hemmerick was born in Montreal, Canada, and earned a BFA with Distinction in Interdisciplinary Studies at Montreal's Concordia University in 1997.

Kenneth Hemmerick in San Diego    To date, he has had 27 solo, juried and group shows in Canada, the U.S., Argentina and South Korea. He has written music for six films and his video productions. In addition, he has had exhibitions of his videos in Montreal, Hull, Toronto, Vancouver, Mexico and Cuba. His works are owned by collectors in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Vancouver, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and the UK.

In September, 2005, he was listed under Class Acts in the Concordia University Magazine. In December, 2005, he showed work at the Pyongtaek Lake Arts Center, South Korea. In February, 2006, he was selected as a finalist in the International Itinerant Exhibition M.I.A.D. Venado Tuerto in Santa Fe, Argentina. His work will also be featured in a Queen's University creative arts journal in the Spring of 2006.

Kenneth is the son of Ermer Robinson, who played basketball with the Harlem Globetrotters.
In addition to his creative work, Kenneth has been active in the humane movement where he was responsible for bringing humane education into British Columbia's elementary and secondary school systems. See one lesson aid created (in PDF format):

He also spearheaded the introduction of a successful pet therapy program into Vancouver's long term care facilities and hospitals with the creation of the BC Pets and Friends Society. View: BC Pets and Friends

Between 1999 and 2004, he worked as an editor for the global directory LookSmart, where he helped to create one of the most comprehensive Canadian music Web directories found on the Internet.


He is a global core team member of Human Dignity and Humiliation Studies, anchored at Columbia University, and serves as Director of the group's Prevent Suicide by Extending Equal Dignity to All project. In February, 2006, an article was published in the Montreal Gazette, relating to his work in suicide prevention. He has created a Suicide Prevention Help Global Web Directory.
